This December: BLACK BLACK BLUES
By J. Patrick Lemarr on Sep 30, 2009 in Blogroll, The Journey
On the heels of Within A Stolen Moment, a limited edition chapbook of poetry, Write Crowd co-founder J. Patrick Lemarr is releasing BLACK BLACK BLUES, a unique assortment of poetry written specifically for this project.
“The basic idea,” Lemarr said, “was to challenge myself. I had listened to an interview with one of my favorite songwriters and, in it, he talked about writing lyrics for songs after the melody had been written by other band members. To make it even more challenging, his band mates had already given the songs titles. This, of course, meant he had to write lyrics within the scope of the titles given… lyrics that also worked with the melody. So BLACK BLACK BLUES is my attempt to write original pieces around previously determined titles.”
The titles, eleven in all, include: Black Black Blues, Vanity Is The Drug Of Choice, Morning Ember, Writing Out The Winter, Purple Is Penelope, Vacuum, Liquid Lies and Levity, Sexy As New Orleans, Somewhere In The Rafters, Cigarettes and Coffee, Home
“I’m really excited about the work, but also about the design—the look—of the chapbook. I think Within A Stolen Moment was a great learning experience. In many ways, it gave birth to BLACK BLACK BLUES and this need to push myself creatively. My prayer is that it will be as enjoyable to read as it was for me to write.”
BLACK BLACK BLUES will be available this December from The Write Crowd.
