I need to get back into the swing of things.  Do you know any good writing exercises I can do?

There is a great book called The 3 AM Epiphany, full of great story prompts and challenges to get the creative juices flowing. Some are more difficult than others, but I had fun and grew a lot going through the exercises. Aside from that, Writers Digest always has short story prompts in each issue, or I can make up a few for you. Like this:

Write a 1500 word story about a woman whose faith is tested by relapse into alcoholism.

Write a 2500 word story about a man stuck in broken elevator with his ex-wife's new boyfriend.

Write a 500 word short story about a boy rescued from a house fire. Write in first person as the child, using language appropriate to the child's age.

Hope that helps.
